Hybrid OA Dashboards: value-added analytics applications to support cost transparency in transformation contracts

Open access transformation contracts are a new acquisition model that consortia and libraries want to use to make more journal content openly accessible. A freely available and uniform database is essential to make workflows for the initiation and evaluation of such contracts comprehensible. The aim of the project is to support cost transparency of open access transformation contracts. For this purpose, requirements for open and machine-readable metadata will be further developed and used for analytical applications in the area of hybrid open access.
The project is divided into three main activities:

  • Inventory of the reporting requirements for transformation contracts and their implementation via the relevant metadata services of Crossref and the Open APC Initiative
  • Standardization of reporting processes in the context of transformation contracts
  • Value-oriented development of analytical tools for initiating and evaluating transformation contracts

The project supports consortia completing open access transformation contracts. Close cooperation is expected with the international standardization initiative Efficiency and Standards for Article Charges (ESAC) and the National Open Access Contact Point OA2020-DE . In addition, the expertise of the German Center for Higher Education and Science Research (DZHW) will be incorporated into quantitative analyses. To ensure the transparency of the project, the open source developments of the project will use open tools and data.
